If you go about choosing some type of patio umbrella, then you will likely find that you have a couple different choices. There are a couple of other things to consider when shopping for outdoor umbrellas.

Measure the area that you want to shade and choose an appropriate sized umbrella for the space. The umbrella should be four to five feet larger than the area you want to shade.

Important thing with fabrics is to look for is a warranty against fading. Sunbrella fabric usually has the longest warranty against fading. It also blocks the most UV rays out of all types of fabrics, but tends to cost more.

Standard market umbrella style have a wood or metal pole that supports the umbrella canopy itself. They come in various sizes from 6’ diameter to 11’ diameter.

You need to consider the offset or cantilever umbrella styles if you are looking for an even larger or more spacious style of patio umbrella. The pole that supports the canopy is not sitting directly below the umbrella canopy itself.
